Great Yarmouth Escape Rooms trip
On the 7th of November, our group visited Great Yarmouth escape rooms, who we will be working with on a game project in the near future. My takeaways from the visit are as follows:
- Clues need to be clear enough to be understandable and easy enough so as not to frustrate the player, but vague enough to demand problem-solving skills, and allow the player to feel gratification at solving the puzzle
- It should be possible to adjust the difficulty if players are having difficulty with the puzzle, potentially including a hint system
- Returning to past locations can make the experience feel more dynamic
- People solve puzzles slower than you'd hope, but faster than you think, so adjust accordingly. better to have a reasonable number of medium difficulty puzzles than have a few hard ones, or lots of easy puzzles
