Chess 2: The Rulebook

Board: Chess 2 has an expanded board compared to chess one, instead having a 10 by 10 board, in which pawns spawn on rows 3 and 8 respectively, and rows 1-2 and 9-10 respectively are  reserved for the backrow pieces. These “back rows” are considered the “spawning spaces” of all non-pawn pieces of each respective colour. Rows 1-2 are considered the spawning place of white pieces, as is row 3 considered the spawning row of white pawns, and rows 9-10 are considered the spawning spaces of black pieces, as is row 8 considered the spawning row of black pawns.

Pieces: In addition to the ordinary pieces on the chess board, chess 2 has an additional 2 pawns of each colour, corresponding with the larger board size, as well as an additional backrow piece; the Pikeman. The pikeman is represented on the board with 2 counters stacked upon each other, and It’s movement is as follows:

The Pikeman can move 2 squares at once horizontally or vertically, leaping over pieces directly adjacent to it. However, it can only move one square at a time diagonally. This movement limits each pikeman to only one colour of squares on the board, so be careful how you use it.

Finally, pieces that are destroyed are sent to their controller’s “Graveyard”, where they can be interacted with by certain cards.

Starting positions: at the start of the game, The pawns all spawn on their respective spawning rows, the kings start on F1 (white) and F10 (black) respectively, as do the queens start on E1 (white) and E10 (black) respectively. However, all other pieces can be placed anywhere in their respective spawning area, with the restriction that 2 identical pieces (such as the black knights or the white pikemen) cannot start on the same colour square (red squares or white squares).

Cards: Each player has a deck of 30 cards, which they draw from whenever their piece destroys an opponent’s piece by battle, and a Discard Pile, where cards go when they are used or destroyed. Cards go to the graveyard when they are used, unless they specify that they are equipped to a piece or stay face up on the field.

Cards that are equipped to pieces you control and cards that are placed face up on the field by you are considered “cards you control” unless otherwise stated. However, Cards that come from your deck go to your discard pile, even if they are under another player’s control when they are destroyed or sent to the discard pile.

ATK and DEF: Instead of taking and being taken like normal pieces, Chess 2 pieces have attack and defence dice, which are rolled whenever a piece attacks/battles another (attempts to take it). If the defending piece rolls higher than the attacking piece, or rolls the maximum number on all of its dice, it is not destroyed, and the attacking piece does not move, and If the results are equal the dice are re-rolled. Otherwise, the defending piece is destroyed and sent to the graveyard.

Starting up: Starting up  is simple. First, place all pieces in their respective starting places, and construct your board according to the starting position regulations. Then, each player rolls a D6, with the player with the highest roll choosing who goes first. Finally, each player draws 2 cards, and the first turn begins
